2021 Chevy Silverado Engines

If you opt for the Light Duty Silverado 1500, you have five engines to choose from. The base option is a 4.3-liter V-6 that generates 285 horsepower and is well suited for your daily driving needs. A little extra power is available with the 2.7-liter turbocharged V-4 with 310 horsepower, or the 5.3-liter V-8 with 355 horsepower.

The top spot for power in the Silverado 1500 is the 6.2-Liter turbocharged V-8, which is good for 420 horsepower. If you prefer your Chevy Silverado diesel fuel, try the 3.0-liter I-6. You can upgrade your Silverado to four-wheel drive for an extra charge of $2,800.

The two engines available for the Heavy Duty Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD are a 6.6-liter V-8 and a 6.6-liter turbocharged diesel V-8. The diesel V-8 is good for 445 horsepower, while the gas-powered V-8 churns out 401 horsepower.

Your only engine option for the Medium Duty Chevy Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD is a 6.6-liter turbocharged diesel V-8 with 350 horsepower.

Chevy Silverado Interior

You can opt for three different cabs with the Silverado 1500: a regular, double, or crew cab. The regular cab seats three people in a single row and is the right choice if you want to take advantage of the 1500’s longest cargo bed. If you choose the double or crew cab, you get a second row of seating that increases your passenger capacity to six. Chevy’s double and crew cabs have an impressive amount of space in the back row, with lots of room for adult passengers to stretch their legs out.

The seat coverings in the base trim are synthetic, but you can get cloth or leather upholstery by selecting a higher trim.

All Silverado interior cabs come equipped with a 7-inch infotainment screen as standard, and you have the option of upgrading to an 8-inch screen and a wireless hot spot.

If you choose the Heavy Duty 2500HD or 3500HD, you can select from the crew cab and regular cab. The infotainment offerings are the same as in the 1500.

Cargo Beds

There are three cargo bed lengths to choose from in the Silverado 1500. The shortest measures 5 feet 10 inches in length and combines well with the two larger cab options. The mid-length bed comes in at 6 feet 7 inches in length, and your longest option measures 8 feet 2 inches.

The Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD feature a long bed and a standard bed, which measure in at 8 feet 2 inches and 6 feet 10 inches respectively.

Chevy Silverado Accessories

Chevy’s Light Duty and Heavy Duty trucks are available in five main trims to cater to preferences for style, utility, comfort, off-roading performance, and more. These trims are WT, Custom, LT, LTZ, and High Country.

The base trim for the 1500 is the WT, which stands for work truck. This is the only trim available with the regular cab.

The Trail Boss sub-trims available with the Silverado 1500’s Custom or LT trims provide additional off-roading capabilities, including four-wheel drive, Z71 suspension with a 2-inch lift, and hill descent control.

You can also accessorize your Chevy Silverado by choosing from four design styles. For example, Dark Essentials gets you black Silverado and trim name plates, while the chrome package includes a polished exhaust tip and chrome recovery hooks.

The Silverado’s range of work packages include a performance upgrade package, which adds an air intake and high-performance exhaust, and the trailering package, which includes hitch guidance and a 2-inch receiver hitch.

Chevy Silverado Towing Capacity

Your towing capacity with the Silverado 1500 varies from 7,200 pounds to 13,300 pounds depending on your choice of engine and other configurations, such as the size of cab and truck bed length. The base V-6 engine can tow between 7,200 and 7,900 pounds, while the turbocharged V-4 manages between 9,000 and 9,600 pounds.

The smaller V-8’s towing limit ranges from 9,300 to 11,500 pounds, while you need the 6.2-liter V-8 to reach the maximum towing capacity of 13,300 pounds.

If you need some added power to get the job done, the Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD push your towing capacity up to 18,500 and 36,000 pounds respectively. To reach the upper limit, you’ll need to choose the turbocharged diesel V-8. The gas-powered V-8 manages to haul a still impressive 17,500 pounds.
