Goodhope Speedway

Experience the thrills of racing at Goodhope Speedway, an open-tire go-kart racetrack located in New Springfield, Mahoning County. Goodhope features a 1/5-mile dirt oval where professional drivers from Sprint cars to E-Mods have gotten their start. If you’re a parent and want to get your child into racing go-karts, Goodhope Speedway is the place to start or continue in the sport of racing.

Racing takes place almost every Saturday from April through October. Racers range in age from kids to older adults. Younger kids have restrictor plates added to their engines, and senior classes of racers follow weight requirements. This weight organization prevents a 150-pound driver from having to race against a 220-pound driver. Each driver races in two heats plus one feature event. During the 2021 season, Goodhope Speedway has been operating as an open-clutch track for drivers of any class.

In addition to the regular racing events for all divisions, Goodhope Speedway hosts a $250 purse race for the Predator 330-pound and 390-pound clones. A kid kart trophy night and Junior 2 trophy night offers opportunities for young drivers to score some go-kart cred among their fellow drivers.

High Voltage Indoor Karting

Experience indoor go-kart racing on a grand scale at High Voltage Indoor Karting. Located in Medina, about an hour’s drive from Youngstown, this premier go-kart racing facility features one of Ohio’s most distinctive track designs. The track is fully customizable and changes several times a year, eliminating the monotony of racing the same track configuration.

Greg Cordray and Steve Madden conceived of High Voltage Indoor Karting as an antidote to the long Ohio winters that prevented them from participating in outdoor fun. The two joined forces to create an all-season, high-adrenaline experience. Occupying a 40,000-square-foot structure that once served as a foundry in Medina, High Voltage Indoor Karting delivers the ultimate indoor go-kart racing thrills for men, women, and children.

The facility offers two types of pricing for advance and walk-in reservations:

  • Adult races: The $21.95 fee per race covers a kart safety and briefing session; helmet, head sock, and neck collar use; and live timing and scoring printout. All adult drivers must be at least 14 years old and at least 58 inches tall.
  • Junior races: The $15.95 fee per race includes all the elements of the adult races (above). All junior racers must be at least 48 inches tall. Note that adults and juniors do not race together.

Guests can also purchase annual memberships good for as many races as desired.

As stated on its website, High Voltage Indoor Karting is the first karting raceway facility in Ohio to run the Italian electric OTL Storm Series ProKart. This model is capable of reaching speeds up to 50 mph. OTL’s junior karts are built with safety features for junior drivers, including ultra-high-strength plastic bumpers and a three-point seatbelt harness and roll bar. High Voltage Indoor Karting is the only track in northeastern Ohio to offer these indoor junior karts.
