Tire Maintenance

Even though all four of your vehicle’s tires receive a similar level of use and exposure to the elements, they don’t typically wear equally. That’s because the front and rear tires often handle completely different tasks.

Depending on the type of vehicle you have and its engine and transmission layout, the two sets of tires might support different weights and take responsibility for various steering and braking tasks. Over time, the front tires might wear much more quickly than the rear set or vice versa.

To compensate for the uneven wear, our knowledgeable team usually recommends tire rotation. We generally suggest rotating your tires about every 5,000 miles so you can keep the wear relatively even throughout their life. Since tires are often designed to last for 25,000 to 50,000 miles, you’ll typically need to schedule a rotation a few times before eventually replacing your tires.

Tire Rotation

Just like your vehicle’s brakes, air filter, belts, hoses, and other key parts, your tires need regular maintenance. When you schedule routine tire maintenance, you can keep your vehicle running as smoothly and safely as possible. After all, well-maintained tires can improve your vehicle’s grip and traction, helping you stay in your lane even in harsh conditions.

Our Tire Center offers services like:

Tire tread tests: As you drive your vehicle, your tires gradually lose their tread. It’s important to make sure the tread doesn’t wear down too far, or your vehicle could slip and slide on the road. Most manufacturers recommend that you have at least 2/32nd of an inch of tread on your tires. Our team can test your tread and make sure your tires remain safe to drive.

Air pressure inspections: For optimal performance, it’s essential to maintain the right air pressure in your tires. With too much or too little pressure, your tires can wear more quickly. Our team can check and adjust your pressure based on the recommended levels for your tires.

Tire balancing: New tires often need added weights to ensure even wear and to keep them running for as long as possible. Our team can inspect and balance your tires, especially if you’ve noticed an unusual vibration or noise coming from them.

Wheel alignment: Your vehicle’s wheels need proper alignment to handle smoothly. Our team can use your automaker’s settings to align your vehicle’s wheels properly for improved handling and more even tire wear.

Flat Repair

Even if you keep your tires in great shape, a flat can happen to anyone. Some of the most common causes of flat tires include:

  • Rough road conditions.
  • Sharp or protruding objects.
  • Damage to the valve stem.

If you have a flat tire, you’ll typically notice either a rapid or gradual loss of air pressure. Call or head to our Tire Center for flat repair right away if you see one or more of these warning signs:

  • A low-pressure light on your dashboard.
  • Repetitive thumping sounds as you drive.
  • Unusual vibrations as you drive.
  • Difficulty steering your vehicle.

In many cases, our team can repair damage to your tires so that you can continue to drive safely. In other cases, flat tires cause extensive damage and require a complete replacement. No matter the extent of the damage or the type of tires you have, our team can help.

New Tires

When you have a flat or your tires are worn out, it’s time for a replacement. Our team can install a new set for your vehicle, no matter what type you drive or what kind of tires you need. If you aren’t sure whether you need new tires, ask our team or watch for one of these common signs:

  • Your tires have little or no tread. Driving on bald tires can be both unsafe and illegal. If your tires don’t have the recommended tread, replace them with a new set as soon as possible.
  • Your tires are cracked. The sidewall or surface of your tires can crack over time or if they’re exposed to harsh conditions. Rather than driving  with damaged tires, replace them so you can stay safe on the road.
  • You’ve been using a spare tire. If you get a flat tire, you might have to drive on a spare for a few days. Yet a spare tire shouldn’t be a permanent solution since it isn’t designed for regular driving. Instead, replace the damaged tire with a new one.
  • You can’t remember the last time you got new tires. Even if you don’t drive every day, your tires can break down with age. Most manufacturers recommend replacing tires every six to 10 years. Check with our team to confirm the age of your tires.
  • Your tires have seen significant wear. If you drive your vehicle frequently or in harsh conditions, you may need to replace your tires sooner than every six years. Ask our team for an inspection so we can estimate when you’ll need a new set.

From maintenance and repairs to new installations, the Sweeney Cars team can handle all your tire needs.
